Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (UMKM) play a vital role in development and economic growth, because in addition to absorbing the most labor, it also contributes greatly to gross domestic growth. Absorption of labor in the UMKM sector grew from 96.99 percent to 97.22 percent in the last five years, so UMKM became a source of employment opportunities and increased income by absorbing a lot of labor. This study aims to examine the strategy of developing and empowering and increasing the competitiveness of UMKM in Tanjungbalai City. This study uses primary data and secondary data. The analytical method used is a descriptive approach, namely identifying with regard to various problems faced by UMKM. The results of the study are in the form of a strategy for developing and empowering as well as increasing the competitiveness of UMKM in the face of global competition.
