This study aims to analyze the cognitive levels of qira’ah questions in the Arabic Language Final Examination for tenth-grade students at Nurul Ihsan Islamic Boarding School, Subulussalam, in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study employed a descriptive research method using examination question documents and students’ answer sheets as research instruments. Data were collected through member checking, while the data analysis employed descriptive analysis based on the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. The results showed that cognitive level C1 (remembering) dominated with a percentage of 33%, while C2 (understanding), C3 (applying), and C4 (analyzing) each accounted for 20%, and C5 (evaluating) accounted for 7%. These findings indicate that the examination questions are still dominated by Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), whereas the proportion of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based questions remains limited. Therefore, the development of a more balanced assessment instrument is necessary to measure students’ critical and analytical thinking skills more effectively.
